Last Week on Inked Brownies

The Playlist Shuffle Tag

playlist

I saw this tag on Donna@Chocolatenwaffle’s and because I’m a rebel, I thought of doing this tag while waiting for procrastinating. And yes, that is me on the tag graphic. I was frantically looking for a girl with headphones on as a background and I couldn’t relate to any of the ones I found, so I thought, what the hell, why not just use an old crappy quality picture of myself? It’s my playlist anyways, right?! (and there are books in the background)

So here are the rules:

– List the first 10 12 songs that come on shuffle (no skipsies)
– Then write your favourite lyric (or verse) from that song (so I kinda forgot about that part….)
– Tag others

Just like with my reading, my taste in music is also pretty eclectic so I went to my Spotify account and had lots of fun. So much, that I couldn’t stop clicking. It’s like last Rafflecopter’s giveaway all over again!

#1

Miss Murder – AFI

I wish I had an inspiring story to accompany this one, but nope, I got nothing!

#2

Turning Japanese – The Vapors

Even though this is a way older song, I didn’t come across it until ten years ago when I was semi-living in Germany. I didn’t hear it on the radio or anything (that was reserved for David Hasselhoff really), but when playing Guitar Hero for hours on end with friends. Good times! (no sarcasm there)

#3

Money for Nothing – Dire Straits

Now this, boys and girls, is a classic! If you were born in the 90’s or even the 00’s,  here’s some education for ya. Fun fact: Sting made a lot of money off this song basically only by writing and singing the opening lines ‘I want my MTV’. Four words –> $$$$!

#4

The Humpty Dance – Digital Underground

Don’t judge me, this is a legit song on Barney Stinson’s Get Psyched Mix.

#5

Summertime Sadness – Lana Del Rey

When I heard Video Games on the radio for the first time years ago, I was like: “Who is this?! I need more of this in my life! “. A reaction I never have when it comes to hearing newer music on the radio. Lana makes for an awesome exception. I loved her even more after I heard she totally crashed and didn’t make any public appearances for a while after she broke through all of a sudden. Just shows she’s only human as well, and that’s just fab.

#6

Edge of Seventeen – Stevie Nicks

Hail Stevie Nicks! Another musical education experience for you young ones out there. Although you might be familiar with her work if you’ve watched American Horror Story Season 3 (she’s even starring in it!!).

#7

Bulls on Parade – Rage Against The Machine

Love this song. Period. And really glad this one popped up instead of Vanilla Ice or whatever embarrassing kind of stuff is out there on my Spotify list.

#8

Everything is Awesome – Jo Li (feat. The Lonely Island)

\õ/ The perfect song to create some happy vibes! And The Lonely Island is featured in this version. Much love.

#9

Celebrity Skin – Hole

You can say whatever you want about Courtney Love, but she definitely made some solid songs. This is one of them.

#10

Dick in a Box – The Lonely Island/Justin Timberlake

Andy Samberg, marry me. (this was the best YouTube version I could find without searching for half an hour, apparently, Justin’s last name is Timbarlake in Polish).

#11

Flying Dutchman – Tori Amos

Mkay, so this is why I couldn’t stop at #10. I’m a huge Tori Amos fan and have been for 20 years. This is originally one of her b-tracks and between you and me, some of her songs that I love the most are b-tracks. Whoever was in charge of editing her albums at the time was an idiot for not including these songs. If you’re not familiar with Tori, she can play the piano like a pro, but I love it when she plays two pianos at the same time. I’ve been to four of her concerts (maybe five even) and it’s always a joy to watch her perform and literally getting off on it as well. Bummer when it comes to the botox, new teeth, and last albums, though.

#12

I Wanna Be Your Dog – The Stooges

Not much to add here besides this being a fab song to energise you or make you feel like you’re a part of Woodstock (drugs included [even though I don’t do drugs]).

Now for the tagging! I know a lot of you out there have great and interesting tastes in music, so here it goes:

Cindy@My Book File :: show us some great Celtic stuff plox!!

Lilly@Lair of Books :: because I can’t help but wonder what’s coming through those earphones in her profile picture!

Inge@The Belgian Reviewer :: because she said something silly about only listening to music from 10+ years ago…

OMG! I LURVE that song, ‘I think I’m turning Japanese’! It has been a favourite since the seventies!

I agree with you on Courtney Love.

    Stooges! Stooges! Stooges!
I love Iggy and the Ashton brothers! Those three Stooges albums, ‘The Stooges’, ‘Funhouse’, and ‘Raw Power’, are the greatest rock records EVER!
I saw Iggy in a tiny, packed, punk rock club in Feb 83. It was amazing!

Thank you for using your own photo! You are a super cutie-pie, and we love seeing you!
    Happy Listening!
    ~Icky. 🙂

    • The highest of fives to you Icky!!! 😀 I love the No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women, no fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it’s dark. part the most in Turning Japanese. Because of the musical bit of course.

Iggy Pop is brilliant! And you saw him live!! Oh gooooosh!! I was only a toddler at that time, but it sounds like something I really would’ve wanted to join in on as well!

      Haha! Thank you!! ❤

    • Hahaha, naturally ;). I don’t even know from what year this song is. It’s probably the newest song on this entire list :’). Apart from the Lego movie one. Thank you!

  11. I only know the three oldies 😉 Dire Straits, Lana Del Rey and Tori Amos (so my time). OK you’re on, I’ll list my songs, no need to twist my arm any more ;-). Thanks for tagging me! They are not that old though but out for a while now ;-). I just looked it up and Happiness from Sam Sparrow is dated 2012 already.. how time flies.

  12. I know that lady in the header picture. 🙂 I don’t think I know most of these songs though. I guess I’m not cool like that. 😂

  13. (gah wrote a whole post and it got deleted!) anyhoo- love that photo! And I adore so much of this music!! EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! And even though I’m a 90s baby, I know my 80s music- Money for Nothing is one of my favourite songs! And I feel the same way about modern music- but Lana Del Rey is also my exception. haha I also have the humpty dance on one of my playlists- nothing to be ashamed of 😉

    • D’AWWE! I hate it when that happens. And can never be arsed to write the same lengthy comment anymore afterwards XD. Thank you!! ❤ Fist bumps! 😀 I’m so glad to hear that! I’m an ’80’s baby but my sister is a ’60’s one so I was very influenced by her music choices as a post-adolescent. And modern music just almost never cuts it right?! Hahaha, phew that’s awesome!

  16. Rage Against and Iggy, be still my heart! I am going to do this tag next month sometime. I agree about Courtney. I don’t have her on my iPod though because my son borrowed (stole) my CDs pre iPod. I think I might steal them back. XD

    Liked by 1 person

    • ❤ Did you see any of them play live? I’m so jealous of Icky up here! 😀 Haha, only means your son has good taste in music. But I believe that was inevitable with you being his mother eh :D.

  17. Dick in a box hahaha Ohh Stevie Nicks ❤ And I love Money for nothing.

    PS You’re really pretty 🙂

  18. I truly know now that you are my Dutch soulmate! You’re Dutch, right…? 😂
I was madly in love with Hole! Courtney Love was my goddess in high school! I had the sticker on my truck and went to one concert when she got pissed and flicked her cig into the crowd because people mobbed her…and I guess that didn’t happen other places when she walked the crowd? Idk…
The songs you picked are classic loves of mine! You didn’t know about Turning Japanese until 10 years ago? I used to sing it as a kid! And pulled my eyelids to make me look Japanese. Because I was apparently a racist kid. 🤔
Awesome list, sista from anotha mista! 🙌

    • Hahaha, high fives! No, I’m 53 and from Germany :’). LOL! Was it like a catch the bouquet kind of thing with the cigarette? I would’ve been so proud if I managed to catch it! Not with my face though. Or maybe so, because that would mark me as Courtney bitch for the rest of my life <3. Hahaha, that’s so awesome!! All kids can be a little racist. I cried for my mommy when I met a coloured person for the first time (there are pics of this). Might have something to do with our St. Nicholas tradition, though, where if you’re a naughty child, you’re being hauled off to Spain by some evil Black Pete. high fives again! (for the playlist, not the Black Pete thing, or being a racist kid).
