After having been a good girl for almost 6 whole months, I caved in June and started buying books again…and haven’t read a single one of them yet due to all the ARC’s that I made my priority *sighs*. It’s a hard knock life!

Speaking of the real hard knock life, for those of you that have read the personal posts on my current circumstances: my dad’s operation was successful, but sadly, they found out that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes. He started his first round of chemotherapy almost two weeks ago now and I’m happy to say that the side effects have been extremely mild so far. We’ve even been joking around about the strict rules he has to follow while being on the meds (which will be for 6 months). He has to flush the toilet twice every time he takes a piss and then thoroughly clean the toilet seat. Seriously, it has never been this clean in there!
The doc prescribed urea cream in case his hands start to get sore and/or he develops a rash. We both immediately said he might just as well piss on his hands then if that happens. Except that if he does, if will both cause the rash and cure it at the same time??Time for some experimenting!
The specific meds he’s on are making him lose his fingerprints as well, so he’s seriously looking into all options on becoming a successful burglar (if anyone has any tips?). But yeah, it’s still hard, unfair, and an emotional roller coaster, but thankfully, we’re keeping the soul alive.

Back to the books. Because of the aforementioned circumstances, I was forced to take a break from blogging and am still not up to full speed with it. Spending time with my family and trying to survive the summer in general have taken their toll: I’m terribly behind in my email correspondence (apologies to everyone who’s still waiting for a response, I just can’t seem to push my brain to start working at it at the moment!), and I’ve only reviewed six books in August. Then again, six books in one month with all that’s been going on? 

My blogiversary was celebrated in style and I’m really happy about the amazing response that I got. Bless y’all! The winners have been picked, announced on my social media channels, and the prizes are on its sweet merry way to them as we speak.

Now on to the actual book haul!

Books that I bought:

My book subscription loot! Minus Ink and Bone. I got an ARC for the second book in the series but the publisher never sent me Book One as promised. Which turned out to be better in the end because this cover is just…RAAWR!

I bought Sons of the Devil after reading Magda’s review HERE.
In the aftermath of the last season finale of The Walking Dead, I just had to find out who gets pummeled to pieces in the end. This was my cue to finally start reading the comics. I think the books don’t mention Negan until Compendium Three, though. Plus, I already Googled it and know it’s Glenn who dies. In the book…OMG, IS IT OCTOBER YET?!

Someone on Twitter told me I should really read Betty Neels’ books. I had never heard of the woman before but apparently, she wrote a shitload of English books that are set in Holland. So naturally, I had to get my hands on some of them. Of course, 2 out the 3 books I bought aren’t set in Holland at all…/epicfail.

I got these from a thrift shop for 20 cents each or so. The first one can be translated into Women&Hormones: A Guide For Every Woman. How could I not buy such an emerald treasure (and make fun of it in my head every time I see the cover)?

Received ARC’s: 

Yes, apparently Fifty Shades of Tinsel is a thing. A horrible thing. Jill and I requested it from NetGalley for the heck of it. If anyone feels like joining in on this feast of smut at its worst?!

Books that I won/have been given to me:

I won this from my blog twin Amanda@Chocolate Pages. Her review made me want to read it asap (=2017 >.>).

Given to me by my mother-in-law in the hope of getting me back into posting recipes ;). Once I fit into my jeans once more without having to lie down first, I’ll start baking again!

I won this from the brilliant Liis @Cover to Cover. Yes, I won this in April, so it technically wasn’t summer yet. I bet it was already fecking warm back then anyways, so it counts for me!

Books that I borrowed: 

I borrowed these from my mother-in-law (she’s an avid reader as well). The first one is The Smoke Jumper, the second one a Dutch children’s book called The Mystery of The Pyramid, and the third one a humorous book called The Confused Guinea Pig.

And that was it! I’m sure I forgot some books again, but *shrugs*.
