~Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2016~

Only one huh? Okay, well, that’s that then. This book was…is brilliant. It’s technically part three in the Frank Friendship series, and even though it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous two book first. I loved this series so much that I ended up asking RG for signed copies (that were paid for, of course) so I can force it onto loan it to people who don’t own an e-reader.

If you’re into ‘British’ humour, dark mysteries and dysfunctional characters, this is the series for you.

~Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2016~

Okay, since I’ve already mentioned Deny Friendship, I’m going to go for The Flood by Steven Scaffardi. This book was even better than the first part. I laughed, and there’s some true suspense going on in there as well. Get acquainted with the Lad Lit genre!

~New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To~

Ehm, tonnes of them! Did you know I got myself a 3-month subscription for Owlcrate earlier this year and haven’t even read a single book of it yet?? I just walk past the beautiful hard copies every day *sighs*. Anywho, something I really want to read is this:

I’ve read such great reviews about it (one of them being from Ardis here), I just have to read it!

~Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year~

I’d love to say Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin, but I highly doubt it will be out this year. So instead, I’m going for:

I missed the early ARC days, but damn it, I will read this book!

~Biggest Disappointment~

I hadn’t gotten as worked up over a book as I was with this one in a long time. God, I’m starting to foam at the mouth a little again just thinking about it!

~Biggest Surprise~

I never expected this book to draw me in the way it did. Lawd, the SUSPENSE!!!

Bonus points for Danielle being a cool gal and for me being able to speak Dutch with her (Afrikaans is basically an old version of Dutch and it sounds pretty funny 😉 )

~Favourite New Author~

I’d definitely like to read more from Seanan McGuire, Daniel Ionson, and Paul Southern. Just three shoutouts because I really enjoyed their books!

~Newest Fictional Crush~

Not much there I believe. I already had a crush on Frank Friendship in 2015. And then there’s who? Hitler? *pulls up nose* I guess I’ll go for Mike from:

He’s not your typical crush (PTSD for one), but we could make things work. Hypothetically, of course. *waves at husband*

~Newest Favourite Character~

Hmm, I’m going with Violet from The Rat Queens here for obvious reasons:

~Book That Made You Cry~

Well, I believe there was only one in that category and that’s this one:

It’s not even a sad story, it’s just…eternal love, old people *sighs*. My dad was diagnosed with cancer the week after I finished this, so it has even more meaning to me now.

~Book That Made You Happy~

Okay, I just looked at the 62 books I’ve read this year and I don’t believe there’s a single one that actually made me happy? Damn!! I think the book that came closest to happy is:

It made me laugh and helped me through a couple of shitty days. Jeez, though, maybe I should start reading some more chick-lit. And children’s books that don’t have a depressing ending like The Little Match Girl‘s…
