Last Week on Inked Brownies

The Versatile Blogger Award

versatilebloggeraward

I was nominated by ZainabNikita and Babus (and quite possibly, another awesome person, but I can’t find the nomination anywhere [please don’t throw rotten eggs and tomatoes at me! or cabbages…] ) for this award. Thank you so much guys! And to everyone else: check out their blogs mkay :3.

 ~The Rules~

  • Show the award on your blog
  • Thank the person that has nominated you
  • Share 7 different facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 blogs of your choice
  • Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination

~Seven Facts About Me~

1. I’m not a summer person. Summer officially kicked off here yesterday and within the last 24 hours, I’ve already been bitten by a mosquito and have woken up drenched in sweat several times. At least the days are getting shorter again now (darkness = cosy lights, candles, and warm beverages).

2. I can sing along with most of the hit songs of Modern Talking. I even had them on my wedding playlist. Just look at this video clip, it’s so excruciatingly bad and never fails to make me cry with laughter smile.

3. I mostly use the HTML text editor on WordPress. This habit came to be due to my WordPress theme which automatically puts grey borders around every picture. I’m not a fan of grey borders, and being the nitpicker that I am, I have to remove all them by hand every time.

4. I’m learning a bit of CSS at the moment, so hopefully I can soon code something which results in fact 3 automatically sorting itself out. Baby steps, though!

5. I’m a big fan of board games and card games. So much, that I’ve been working on putting up a sister site of Inked Brownies (with the help of hubby) in which board games will be the main focus. As usual, I underestimated the time that goes into this, though, but…soon!!

6. I should be able to speak 6 or 7 languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Arabic, and Morrocan (which is one of the many Arabic dialects). Sadly, due to the lack of practice, most of them became a cluttered mess in my brain. I can’t even speak proper Dutch anymore!

7. Know any rap songs from the ’90’s? The chances of me being able to ‘rap along’ with them are pretty high (based on their popularity and availability on any Dutch radio stations at the time, of course).

~Blogs I Nominate~

Because I don’t know who’s done which tag yet and/or who’s even interested in doing a tag, I’m just going to give you a small selection of blogs that I think are very versatile and of which I always try to read every single post. So these aren’t precisely tags, but more shout outs of appreciation. In no particular order:

  1. Holy shit! 😀 Modern Talking- I know all their songs too! I had this tape-cassette that played in our house nonstop during summer BBQs because obvs my mom was a huge fan, but… saying that, their music is just so grabbing. I love their tunes!
Coding! Yeeha, are you using Codecademy as well? I finished CSS on it like a year ago and my JavaScript course is… yeah, I got busy and didn’t finish it so I’ll have to start all over with it cause I’ve forgotten about the methods and so on… Coding is fun though, yes? 🙂
As for rap songs… god, you’re just a miracle, girl… 😀 The one song I really still remember all lyrics to and still ‘sing’ along to is Coolio’s Ganster’s Paradise!

This was so cool… You’re an interesting human! 🙂

    Thanks for nominating ❤

    • Omg, and that song… I’ll be going around for weeks now humming it.. with the bass and the keyboards and every little detail pinging in my head! Fabulous!

    • LOL! big high fives! It’s weird innit? I mean, the lyrics are downright awful, the video clips where the overtanned guy’s showing a poker face while singing he’s “dying with emotion“, while the other one’s doing the fist pump dance with a huge smile on his face :’) but the tunes just STICK!
I just started Codeacademy a couple of weeks ago! Whooo! I was like, with the amount of time I spend on the interwebz and trying to make posts look better, I might as well learn how to do that shit all by myself :3. Awesomesauce, you’re one of the few bloggers (that I know of) who do! 😀
Hahaha, me too + the Weird Al Yankovic version of Amish Paradise :’).

      Right back at ya! ❤

  2. Thank you for the shout out! 🙂
I use the html editor quite a lot too. There are many times when my theme just doesn’t want to play along and the only way to knock some sense into it is to go back to the html.
I’m not so good at the raps, but I do know many many 90s lyrics. I always said if I could have remembered everything I needed to know for my exams as easily as song lyrics I would have been able to slack off a lot more. I do have a friend whose party piece is being able to rap along with the whole of Ice Ice Baby 🙂

  4. Now that I’ve seen Modern Talking I cannot unseen or unheard that. It is hilarious though. That’s totally incredible that you know so many languages, it is a shame you’re out of practice, what you really need is a trip around the world to get back into practice again.

    Liked by 1 person

    • That’s what it does to you :’D. It would be more incredible if I actually remembered all of them properly. A trip around the world doesn’t sound so bad!

        Yeppers,
        it’s humid all right.
The air is as damp as the inside of a watermelon, but as hot as grandmas stove. It’s thick, too, like clear molasses.
I sure do envy ya’ll in the 21st century, with your air conditioning. Back here in 1877, the best we’ve got are oscarciliating fans and ice hats.

        • Gosh, that sounds like a nightmare! I would stick my head in a refrigerator all day, but since you don’t really have those ones yet either, ice it is. Or move underground. But not too far underground!

7 languages? Wow! No wonder you can’t speak all of them correctly! 😀
I hate Summer too. It’s so sweaty and all these horrible mosquitoes and bees. Ugh.
    Thanks for the nomination! ❤

    • Yeah, it’s madness inside my brain! God bless you<3 You’re one of the very, very few people who agrees with me there. Yes, the sweat, the bugs, the insomnia, the heat rash, the it’s too-hot-to-be able-to-do-anything, the smell of burned pigs outside around dinner time and way after that, people who are unable to shut their trap when sitting outside, making me have to go back in when trying to read in my backyard. Oooooh, summer!! 😉 Thank you to begin with! You’re the one who nominated me ages ago! 😀

OH GOODNESS – THANK YOU SO MUCH, ANNE! From both Kassandra and I – you just made our week. I am looking forward to reading through everyone else’s blogs, and I like that it’s more like shout-outs than tags (because the tag thing is confusing).
    continues fangirling
Modern Talking did a magnificent job with that music video. I especially appreciate the fading from rainbow pixels to the keyboard – who’d of thought that’s exactly what that video needed?!
As for your CSS problem, I may possibly have a fix? If you want it, that is. It’s always more fun to figure it out on your own so feel free to ignore the next few lines….

I’m not sure if you’re self-hosted or on wordpress.com (or if the wordpress layout changes between the two), but go to Appearance » Edit CSS and paste this:
    img { border: 0px !important; }
Hopefully that should override your CSS settings. And it’s easily located in case something messes up, you can easily erase it without messing up your actual theme! 😀

    …. until here. 🙂
I do you wish you luck learning CSS and HTML! Have you heard of Codecademy? It’s fabulous. I’ve done several of their tutorials and the way the classes are interactive and make you code the CSS, HTML, and Java yourself is WONDERFUL! Definitely the best way to build your foundation and then learn to hack the CSS/HTML through “Inspect Element” (on Windows.. not sure how on Mac) and screwing with CSS Sheets… Aaah, fun times…
ENJOY! (And I hope you get some miserable weather to counteract your summer weather!)

    • Hahaha, duh! Your blog is the best thing I discovered this year! When it comes to blogs that is! (thinking of bear sex and a local cookie shop). Yes, that’s German ingenuity there for ya. Alongside mullets of course. I’m on .com with this one but my sister site is/will be self hosted, so I need all the knowledge I can find about it! …runs off to the CSS editor with this new info

    • Can I just say that I love you? It worked like a charm! I know I would’ve eventually figured it out myself as well (Yes! I started at Codeacademy a couple of weeks ago [first 14 lessons so far was stuff I already knew but that only gives me confidence I’ll work out the rest as well] ) but this border thing was REALLY getting on my nerves. Thank yooooooou!! ❤

Aaaah good ol’ German music. I love their style. I took German in high school and there was a website we used that told us all of the best music, along with Tokio Hotel (MAJOR hair envy) this was my favourite song (and I have no idea what the ballet dude does or means..). I seem to have lost all the hilarious music videos I had from back then, but this one, despite being a beautiful song, always reminds me of cannibals. shift eyes
SCOREE! So glad it worked and didn’t immediately fuck everything else up. WOOT WOOT!

        Liked by 1 person

      • :D. Gasp! I never heard that first song before! It’s actually pretty good, but yes, the ballet dancer…mkay, whatever floats his boat :’). And, omg…those people! What? Why? I guess they wanted to go for the macabre sexy vid style?

Yes!! I made my first post with the new CSS yesterday and it saved me a fucking 30 minutes or so! ❤

  11. oh gosh, I only now noticed this post (I have some unread ones from a while back to go through)
I used to have a Modern Talking phase at school… I grew out of it, but I still sing along when the songs come up 😛

    And I love board games!

As for the nomination big thanks!
I actually did that one in January: https://maginibooks.wordpress.com/2016/01/23/the-versatile-blogger-award/

    • If I had to read every post of the people I’m following, I wouldn’t get to reading a single book at all xD. Haha! Awesomesauce! I didn’t discover them until 6 years ago or so. high fives! Kewl, I didn’t know who did what already, so this was just a shout out to show some appreciation 😀 ❤

      Liked by 1 person

      • 😀 I know exactly what you mean in both cases.
I tend to check the post titles and read the ones that catch my eye – just like with books 😉
as for the tags – it depends on my mood, sometimes I might check if a person I want to tag already had it, but most of the times I’m just picking at random from my favorite blogs or from followers, or people who left a star or a comment 😀

        Liked by 1 person

        • Yeah, same here. Nice graphics also help to draw my attention ^^. Except for the bloggers of which I know for sure that I will like their post no matter what. Still, a lot of reading, though! You can see it’s summer time with the increasing number of tags around xD
