Last Week on Inked Brownies

May TBR + Surprise Announcement

Oh my, it’s May again! Normally, I get a tat bit depressed around this time of the year because of the abundance of sunshine. This time, though, I count myself a very lucky gal because it was still snowing here last week, huzzah! (yes, I know I’m a bit weird like that, but I’d choose the Antartic over a tropical island any day when it comes to going on a holiday).

Sooo, what does May have in store here when it comes to books?

My practically set in stone TBR list for this month:

A unique story taking place in twenty-seventh century post-apocalyptic Scotland; where immortal beasts roam wild in the countryside, mighty princes battle for power and the common folk do their best to avoid being trampled in their wake.

I’m almost done with this one and I’m definitely curious about the sequels to this story!

This one promises to be the ideal novel for mature readers with juvenile senses of humor who enjoy satire, sex, knife fights, theosophy, bestiaries, sorcery, and some history thrown in for good measure.

A Monty Python reference was made, so I’m game, despite the dubious cover.

I’m part of the Lad Lit blog tour, which is taking place right now, and I’ve just started reading book one in the Sex, Love and Dating Disasters- series.

Dan Hilles is on a long ass dry spell in this one. And you can still get an e-copy of this book for free on Amazon US and Amazon UK (ending) today as a part of the blog tour promotion.

Book two in the Sex, Love and Dating Disasters– series. Following his traumatic eight month dry spell, Dan Hilles is back in the driving seat and ready to put his dating disasters behind him.

I’ll be posting a review and character Q&A of this one on the 16th of May as part of the blog tour! This’ll be my first character Q&A, so pray for me I won’t mess it up!

Timothy Other’s birthplace has always been a mystery. 12-year-old Timothy lives at the Dreams and Hopes Orphanage where he was abandoned as an anonymous infant. His world crumbles when the orphanage is repossessed by the bank and comes under the strict rule of the horrid Mr. Sterner and the scaly-skinned Ms.’Fishy’ Finn. He escapes the Dreams and Hopes Orphanage and travels to the bizarre world of Marzipan Mountain, where he befriends some amazing creatures.

It’s been too long since I’ve read a Middle-Grade book!

An estranged father’s weekend with his beloved five-year-old daughter turns into a nightmare when she gets into the lift of a city centre tower block and goes down without him. She vanishes without a trace. It sets off a race against time, and a nationwide manhunt, to find her. As the police investigation closes in, suspicion falls on those closest to her – with devastating consequences.

After reading good things about it, I can finally review this book myself!

Now as a surprise/announcement: Cindy from My Book File and I have decided to team up again for a double review. Wait, what…not just one double review…we’ve turned it into a monthly feature! We even have our own graphic for it *cheers!*

We’ll be posting a double review every last Thursday of the month, unless we decide to kill each other before that, of course (or unless something less dramatic comes up, like exams or holidays ;)).

This month, we’re going to start off by reading Earthbound Bones by Regina Welling together.

After being tossed out of heaven, former guardian angel, Galmadriel isn’t like any other angel. Not quite human, yet not fully an angel, the best thing the PTBs can think to do with her is bounce her around so she can solve supernatural problems.

Ghosts that need to find their way home or that purposefully take the wrong path are her bread and butter. To add insult to injury, she is assigned a fledgling pair of guardian angels to train. Julius and Estelle are ready and willing to learn, but they also have a secondary agenda. One that Galmadriel is never supposed to find out about.

I’m not entirely sure what to think of this one yet, but I’m sure it will make for an interesting review, no matter what!

  4. Post-apocalyptic far future Scotland? I’ve just bought For King and Country and have my fingers crossed it’ll be a success of genre-creating proportions. I also hope it’s good 😉

    • 😀 It’s very confusing to be honest. Like Sci-Fi and Dark Age Fantasy combined. Someone empties their bedpan and then steps into a high-tech shower…but certainly interesting for your genre research aye ;).

      • I’ve just this second realised what part you were talking about!! For the life of me I couldn’t work it out before haha!
No bedpan involved I’m afraid, just the floor, poor sod :/

        • 😀 It wasn’t as much as 1 particular scene, but more the contrast between these things. I’m definitely a lot less confused after your explanation, though! 😉 A bedpan and a chamber pot are the exact same thing in my mind btw, but after Googling some imgages, I realised they aren’t XD. Eeew!

    • Haha! 😀 I guess someone needs to freeze time, so you’ll be able to read all of those books! Thank you! ❤ My hubby said people were going to ask about the finger, but I was like, of course they’re not! That’s just me?! 😀 So I just showed him your comment and told him a “told ya so” ^^.

That would be wonderful – if you know of a wizard can you please pass my name on? If he’s young, I’ll give you my number for him! 😉
AHAHA that’s fantastic! Yes, definitely no second guessing from me. Although I’m also incredibly sarcastic and “expressive” so I related to your icon… don’t tell him that if it ruins my last comment, though! 😀

        • Hahaa! If only!! 😀 Some women might say here that their man’s a wizard of things, but honestly, mine can’t even hang up a fucking shelf xD. Whooo! We’ll get along just fine then! ❤
